Black Knight Hutschenreuther Bavaria Cobalt Blue Gold Trim 10.25 Dinner Plate
Black Knight USA Hutschenreuther Bavaria Cobalt Blue Gold Trim 10.25 inch Diameter Dinner Plate. This listing is for one Cobalt blue and Gold vintage 10.25 inch diameter dinner plate imported by Black Knight USA and made by the Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther Porcelain company of Hohenberg, Bavaria for export pre World War II. The Baroque style plate has a cobalt blue border that is decorated with ornate gold flower urns, scrolls, triple flower clusters and leaves, with a gold encrusted inner ring in the center of the plate. The back of the plate is marked Black Night US Pat. Each plate has been very well maintained having been on display only with no chips, cracks, or scratches. The Black Knight mark is the importer Graham and Zenger of New York and not the maker of the china; this is a common misconception. The Black Knight mark was used between about 1925 and 1941 by Graham & Zenger, a New York City based importer and wholesaler. The blanks were originally manufactured then designed and painted by the Hutschenreuther Porcelain Factories to be imported. At the outbreak of WWII, Graham and Zenger and their Black Knight China brand ceased trading. The Hutschenreuther Porcelain Factory was founded by Carolus Magnus in Hohenburg, Bavaria, in 1814. A second factory was established in Selb, Germany, in 1857. The company made fine quality porcelain dinnerwares and figurines. The mark changed through the years, but the name and the lion insignia appear in most versions. Hutschenreuther became part of the Rosenthal division of the Waterford Wedgwood Group in 2000. Rosenthal became part of the Arcturus Group in 2009. This elegant design is sure to enhance any table or cabinet and will delight any collector of Hutshenreuther’s fine porcelain.
