This is the last set of 12 dinner plates I have for sale. These were made in the Weil porcelain factory. I have had 200 of these and some are marked by a W incised in the bottom of the plate. Others, like one in this group, is labeled, C. Baruch Weil, Aire &Co, PARIS. They were retailed by Aire and Co in Paris and produced sometime between 1828 and 1833. He dies in 1828 with numerour heirs from his two marriages. His elder daughter with her husband, Benoit Leon Cohen bought the salesroom and he became the partner of his bother in law Godchaux Baruch Weil in running the new showroom. He went on to become a bailiff for the court system after joining the prestigious Cercle de Commerce in Paris. These plates belonged to the estate of Robert Weeks DeForest and his wife Emily Jonston DeForest. They came out of the attic of his home Wawapek, in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York. The Plates measure 9 across, which is the correct size for a dinner plate from the early 1800s in France. People often mistake these for luncheon or desert plates. The gilding varies on each one and there are NO cracks or chips on any plate. Some of the gold gilding on the edges are rubbed off but they are still very attractive.
