Set of 12 Chinoiserie Heavily Gilded Antique Plates by George Jones Circa 1873
Well, if you want to make a statement, this is it! Very pleased to offer some of the most dynamic plates I’ve ever had. We have a set of twelve large Dramatic Heavily Gilded Dinner Plates by George Jones & Co. Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire made Circa 1873; Ex. This Imari pattern was called “Sutherland Japan” and wound up being so popular that it was done in every color imaginable. It was handled by the famous London dealers and Tiffany here in America. I’ve not been able to find any done with this amount of gilding………… None with the vase totally gilded, so this must have come from a special order. It’s just jaw dropping with all the vivid colors and gilding. These are the kind of plates, that when on display, can “make” a room. They measure 10.25″ and are in excellent shape, minor crazing commensurate with age, minor glaze loss on the edges, minor scratches and odd little scratches on the vases; I don’t know if they meant to “pattern them that way, but I don’t see actual knife marks on the plates. And all that GOLD! Honest to God, it was so hard to try to photograph plates with so much going on!! Be sure to check out my other listings.
