Exquisite & rare antique French Charles Ahrenfeldt Limoges 12pc 10 1/4 dinner plate set, pale cream to white with highly intricate and ornate raised gold enamel encrusted borders and all in superb condition! Virtually dripping opulence, this set leaves nothing to be desired, well… Maybe an elegant set of antique French sterling silver flatware and service pieces to go with them. Artfully executed raised gold enamel with frieze style inner and outer bands. Also worth noting are the gold enamel bases, I haven’t really verified it but was told by one of our dealer friends that this addition was really only done on pieces of great importance, sort of the coup de gras to an exceptional work. In other words, a completely unnecessary show of extravagance. They also bear the mark for the US retailer C. Reizenstein of Pittsburgh – Allegheny. Charles Ahrenfeldt started decorating porcelain in French Limoges in 1884. Finally he also established a porcelain factory. Earlier he gained experience in 1840s decorating porcelain in Paris and managing a firm exporting porcelain. The company’s first store was established on Federal Street in Allegheny (now Pittsburgh) in 1865, making it America’s oldest family-owned china and glassware. No chips, no cracks and i see no crazing. There are a few darkened spots here and there to the gold enamel but hardly noticeable.
