Exquisite Decorative Set of 5 MINTON 10 5/8 DINNER PLATES, Multicolor FLORAL SPRAYS on High WHITE, MARLOW Pattern #S309. DESCRIPTION: This simple but elegant pattern uses the large multicolor floral sprays on the Marlow pattern #S309. The fluted swirls end in the scalloped rim that is trimmed in a wide bold gold trim The color palette used is pink, green, blue, yellow, purple, red, orange on high white with gold trim on the rim. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative dinner plate set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to the paint or the gold trim. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. One plate has very slight utensil marks. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant plates have a diameter of 10 5/8″ and a height of 13/16″. HISTORY/MARKS: Founding his business in 1793 at Stoke-on-Trent, Thomas Minton established the company that became famous for the most popular pattern ever, the Blue Willow. He formed a partnership with William Pownall, a Liverpool merchant, and Joseph Poulson, a local potter. Manufacturing began in the newly erected pottery in May, 1796. His son, Herbert, joined the partnership in 1817 taking over after his father died in 1836. The business was incorporated in 1884 as Mintons Ltd. The original pottery was closed in 1992 with the name still being used at other Doulton facilities.
