Schumann 4 Dinner Plates 1955 Empress Fuzzy Pink Pointed Purple Dresden Flowers. Exquisite Decorative Set of 4 DINNER PLATES 10 1/4 from Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria. EMPIRE DRESDEN FLOWERS 3 Fuzzy Pink & 1 Pointed Purple on HIGH WHITE PORCELAIN w/GOLD Trim on Scalloped Rim, circa 1955. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand decorated floral design was produced with beautiful colors on the high white porcelain with bold gold trim on the scalloped rims. The Empire Dresden Flowers make the design look so classic. This makes a beautiful display plate set or can be used everyday. The large floral spray in the center is actually the same as the one used on many different porcelain pieces and is the one referred to as the fuzzy pink and the pointed purple spray. The smaller sprays around the edge in the embossed gold cartouches are composed of smaller Dresden flowers and are separated by larger flower sprays between the cartouches. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no wear to the gold or colors. DIMENSIONS: The plates have a diameter of 10 1/4″ with a height of 1 1/8″. HISTORY/MARKS: The factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria after being forced to close his previous pottery (founded 1876) due to the development of a rail road through the factory. Upon his death, the pottery was run by his widow until his youngest son, Carl Schumann I, married in 1896 and assumed management. The company was incorporated in July of 1923. In 1926, Carl’s son, who had been studying in America, assumed leadership after his father’s untimely death at 55. After WWII, the pottery flourished, but never regained its prior success as Japanese products flooded the American & European markets. The business stayed in the family until it was closed in 1994. There is also the mark has E&R (Ebeling & Reuss) that was an importer of Bavarian Germany porcelain. This is mark #267 used up to 1979 from Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemiam and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present. Ebeling & Reuss was a US importer in Philadelphia, PA of German porcelain from 1955 to Present. This set is circa 1955.
