This listing is for an antique set of 12 Edgerton dinner plates from the historic and world-renowned Pickard China, circa mid-1930s to late 1940s. This elegant set of hand-painted, 10-5/8 dinner plates exudes the high quality that collectors have come to expect from Pickard China over the decades. For example, the Pickard gilding process included two coats and two firings on each piece! This extra layer of gilding protects antique Pickard pieces, and has played a crucial part in preserving these fine dinner or cabinet plates. The set appears to be in excellent, preowned condition with slight factory anomalies. Each piece features a background of ivory porcelain, as well as a lustrous gold encrusted wide border of floral designs that is accented by two cobalt blue solid bands and heavy gold bands of intricate design patterns. The outer design is impressive and offset with a soft Dresden floral medley, at center, of bright blossoms in shades of rose, lavender, violet, and orange. Each plate is marked in gold: Edgerton Made and Decorated in U. The Edgerton Art Studio was created and employed ten china painters. Unfortunately, the studio lasted only one year before it closed either because of financial or logistical difficulties. Despite this dissolution, the Edgerton mark was retained by Pickard, and appears twice throughout the history of Pickard China USA.
