Plates with knife/utensils marks, some rubbing of gilt present. Approximately 14 pieces have minor chips. Fabulous Estate Sale find, from a very prominent Washington D. Incredibly large collection of KPM Kurland Gold dinner and serve ware. Makers Mark KPM with scepter mark in blue and orb in red. The Kurland Gold Pattern, early 20th century is perhaps the greatest success of KPM’s Neoclassical period. The dinner service, originally designed by Johann Karl Riese in 1790 for Peter von Biron, the Duke of Kirland in 1790 remains in production today. The Kurland design features concentric bands of gilt beads, drapery jabots, and lilies on a white ground, most centering raised gilt monograms. Kurland Gold is no longer in production making existing pieces very desirable. Set includes plates, bowls, demitasse cups and saucers, 3 tea cups and saucers, 4 double handled cream soup cups and saucers, additional saucers and three serving platters.
