The plate was commissioned for the wife of William Deering Howe was The President of Transair Inc – he tragically died in Cuba of a heart attack in Havana Cuba. He lived in New York with his wife at 250 Park Avenue. William Deering Howe the son of William Deering. William Deering (April 25, 1826 – December 9, 1913) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He inherited a woollen mill in Maine, but made his fortune in later life with the Deering Harvester Company. This plate is a sample bespoke commission piece by Thomas Goode & Wedgwood as a potential design for a much larger set. Thomas Goode would have produced a number of designs from which Mrs Deering Howe could select here preferred choice for the larger set. The plate still carries the gold Thomas Goode sticker (easily removed should you wish) and is not permanently attached. Good overall condition, no cracks chips or repairs. Some rubbing to gilding and couple of scuff to paint work on the outer edge. Approx Size: 28cm wide.
